Knowing what year might help in obtaining an answer...

My gs850L is from 1983. The gen cover is on ebay (UK) at the mo. I haven't asked the seller which year it is from. Any info will be greatly received.
      Many thanks

I'm a newbie... but since I know I'm going to need a few parts I've been checking out the sites that have the OEM fiche online. You can pick your bike and check the part number. Then you can select a comparable bike and see if the part numbers are the same. That's what I've been doing. That way if I see something I'm interested in, I can check to see if it will work for my bike.

The 8 valve GS850 engine was developed from the earlier 8 valve GS750. The cover from a 1978 GS750 will fit any 79-83 GS850.

However, the cover from a later 16 valve (TSCC) GS750 will not fit.

If you're in the UK, be aware that these model years and designations may be different than in the US.

You'll need to get the part number or the year of the bike from the seller.

            cover story

Thanks for the advice guys, I bid and won the cover and generator for £18 ($34 usd)inc p&p. So I think she will do nicely. And if she doesn't I'll add her to the box of bits for bikes in the garage for the future.
            Cheers
