Charging issues with my '80 GS550L

The bike will run for a week or so and then die. I've re-charged the battery and again it would last for only a week or so and then die again. I went out a purchased a new battery, to eliminate that possibility. No improvement. Thinking that it is a bad ground somewhere I put in a direct power switch from the battery. Making sure that it is in the off position when parked so it's guaranteed that no juice is running through the bike, draining the battery. But to my frustration it happens again. The bike dies after a week of riding. Please help! - For the time I've spent riding this bike I do enjoy it and appreciated it.

Bret is on the money. Get a volt/ohm meter and the flow chart from stator papers IV and start troubleshooting.

Get a voltmeter and see if your battery is charging at all..

That would be a good start.
