    82 GS1100GL Questions

I purchased a 1100GL a few weeks ago and I'm slowly fixing it up. One of the problems is at high rpms between 7000 and up it seems to stumble a bit and run a little rough. I'm in the process of problem solving for it but would like some pointers. It has a 4 into one pipe and the PO claimed he rejetted it(not sure). It has the stock airbox in it with a rough looking air filter that I just cleaned. Any pointers to get me started would be great.

2nd problem. There is a bluish green wire under the tank in front of the top of the airbox that is cutoff. I don't see where it goes to reconnect it. Can anyone help? Thanks

    GS1100GL,

There may be a few different solutions to your running rough at the top end. I just went through this about a month ago with my 1100G and after checking everything fuel related, it turned to be my coils crapping out. I swapped them out and presto, things were great. If it is not electrical, you maybe runnning to rich or too lean. Does it cut out at 7K when parked or when you are riding it (or both)?

As far as your wire is concerened, I don't know what wire it is off the top of my head excpet for maybe the kickstand light wire. However, I have a high resolution image of the 82 1100G wiring diagram and I think the GL uses the same diagram, but don't quote me on that. Click on my GSR ID in the top left of the post and send me an email letting me know what size of attachement you can receive.

      Thanks Jonr,

I just emailed you. It was running rough while riding it but revs up to quick while parked to notice anything. As far as the wire goes, I am missing the kick stand relay that goes on the kick stand. I think that has two wires for that. The kickstand light lights up when I turn the ignition key on before I start it and then goes out after it is started.

That's probably it then. I believe the kickstand light uses the green/white and black/white wires to do the job. I got your email and will send you the diagram.

If it revs up at idle with no problem and then cuts out while riding, then I would suspect the coils. Mine did the exact same thing past 5500 rpms. Something about being under load changed the scenario.

          Thanks Jonr,

Thats an excellent diagram. It looks like the single blue wire for the neutral light on the speedometer. Thanks again.
