'79 750L in trouble again! Muffler problem!

It's been awhile since I had to complain to you guy's about my problems. But faithfully, here I am again. This time, I have blown out my baffles out of my right side muffler & didn't realize it at the time & can not find one anywhere! A baffle, I mean. Then maybe I could wrap it up w/some kind'a fiberglass or something, to make it sound & run right. It only has 16,500 on it. And after I had a fire & changed out the air box-filter & the lot, petcock, & re-did the tank w/por-15 . Everything was working really well, thanks to all the help I got from quit a few of you! As you may or may not recall, I am on a fixed income, & money is tight for me, so I always have to take the, usually hardest way out when doing something, so I have to cut corners when normally I wouldn't. So that's why I mentioned wrapping a baffle, that I don't even have anymore, w/fiberglass. I read that somewhere. But looks like I may need a used muffler if I can find one. I looked everywhere here where I live, w/no luck! I'm in Southern Cal-Ventura area. My bike is so hard running now. It pops while it's running. & just plain sounds & runs bad!. It needs way to much choke to get warm. After it gets warm, it will idle fine, but when I try to gun it off the line, fast, it will bog & then catch & go like hell. But i suspect that I may have underlying problems too. But until I can get this noisy thing to quite down & run a 'lil smother, & stop this god awful popping, I won't be able to tell. Can somebody please help me with any ideas on what I can do. Keeping in mind I don't have very much money. I've been on disability now for my god, I hate to remember how many years w/a bad back, I hurt at work many yrs ago. But if someone can give me some help I really would be very thankful. Thanks for your time. Ron..

Do a search for Harley exhausts on this site, apparently they are free to come by at harley shops as they take the stockers off and put aftermarkets on all the time. It looks like a great way to go! I have been thinking about doing this myself as my baffles are gone in my exhaust and it is pretty darn loud.

        '79 GS750L Muffler problem!

In reply to your response, Mr. Tarbash 27, I would definitely be very interested in whatever you may have left or whatever you think you have that may help me in my never ending effort in trying to find something that will work getting this bike back to running like it did prior to this stupid thing I did by not, some how wiring up my baffle before it fell out! If I had of, I could've maybe wrapped it up w/something to keep it from popping like it is, causing to much exhaust back pressure. I am so glad you answered me w/something, but i have no idea what your talking about. But I feel pretty good about you giving me some advice about what I can do to maybe rectify my problem somewhat. God willing, you'll be able to find what's left of your muffler. Why'd you chop it up anyway?

          Mufflers.

Thanks JHaukins. But I didn't quite get what you meant about Harley's. Did you mean they cut off the old mufflers & use Harley's in place of the Suzuki's on a Suzuki bike? If so, wouldn't it still cost me a lot of money I don't have? If not, I am way off base. Please explain if ya can. I must be a 'lil off today I think..Ron,..

im sorry, i took a look at the mufflers and theres nothing really to salvage on them. there destroyed, hacked up etc. as for harley mufflers, they wont work unless you cut yours off. because on your bike the mufflers are welded on. you could try fing an entire system on ebay. MAC makes replacement mufflers.

              Mufflers.

Well, you tried! I don't know what I can do to get the noise down & the exhaust to slow down too. But I checked on mufflers on ebay & they want $100 each of 'em & that's a 'lil much wouldn't ya say? I think I'd rather cut these off & weld anything back on than to even try'n do that, which I couldn't. But thank you guy's anyway. Hay though, if ya come up with something later on, please give me a holler- at those prices, I'm sure not going anywhere soon. Thanks again. Ron...

as I understand it, you would cut your mufflers off and have a pair of harley mufflers welded on. Most everyone I see is getting the harley mufflers free as they have been discarded by the owners in favour of loud pipes. Here is a link to one of the threads on it. I think the muffler looks awesome.

                      Muff prob!

Sorry for the dely, but my mind was so worked up over not knowing what I could do about this, that I just gave up for awhile, till I checked again, & low & behold, here you guy's are again! I swear, this place is the only place on earth a person can count on when in a pinch. I've never seen a bunch'a better & more sincere people in my life & I have a few yrs under my belt too! Anyway, thank you so much for continuing to give advice & keeping me alive. Did you mean-(LHawkins) that the people that own the Harley's just give away their mufflers & pipes when they get new one's then? But aren't they just 2 into 2? Mine is 4 into 2!! Wouldn't that be what I would need? I am sorry if I sound a bit lame about this. But I don't know if you remember, but I am new to this bike stuff. I was & still am, I guess a auto mechanic, somewhat. I own a '69 roadrunner & had to be in order to keep it on the road for as many yrs as I have had to. But never worked on bikes before. I am pretty good as a auto guy though. So please bare w/me. Most things I do understand. But a lot goes right over my lame head! HA! Hay Scoooter; thanks for your reply. I will check on those pip[es to see if they will work or not. Maybe somebody here can let us know. I sure couldn't tell ya though. That would be the ticket for sure!!!!!!! If I could afford to get 'em, that is. Thing is, I'm on a fixed income & don't have much $ period. But I will check to find out. Is somebody out there that can tell us if a '82 750T mufflers will fit my '79750L mufflers please????? I will post that too. Maybe we can find somebody. I have to go to the Doctor in another town now though. So I will get back soon. Thanks so much for your attention....Ron..

                        Will a '82 750T fit a '79 750L Muffler both stock?

Can somebody please help me or steer me in the right direction as to where to find out that info? Maybe a cross check on part #'s will do it. But i don't know if that is a good way to know or not & I would only have 1 shot at this. So if it was wrong, I would be stuck with the wrong pipes. So I need help. Thank you..Ron...
