    start button don't work

the 87 gs450l chain drive I bought won't start when you thumb the button. It will start when you jump the yel/green wire to the 12v connection at the solenoid. There is 12v on the yel/grn wire at the button, and the button functions properly. There is a black/white wire on the solenoid to the left of the yel/grn.Where it goes I haven't found yet.Is anyone familar with this set-up? I'm hopin to get my wife on the saddle ,(before she gets cold feet)

    thank you

    You do know that
the engine cut off (kill switch) has to be on and
the clutch must be pulled in even if in neutral
    or the starter won't spin.

(My goldwing when in neutral will happily spin the starter but just won't start when the engine cut off is off)

Yes I have the kill switch in the run position and bike is on center stand in neutral. It starts and idles but the button don't actuate the starter relay.

You've got a poor or missing ground where your starter solenoid is located. Run a ground wire from your battery to where the solenoid is located, should cure the problem.

The b/w wire is your ground and runs through the rest of the wire harness.
You may not be getting good contact within the start button itself also try
          what DanTheMan says.

            it works!

case closed,I loosened up the clutch cable (pb blaster & a wrench). Now the lever bottoms out and it enabled the starter button.Thank You.App-

              Re/grd.

traced the bla/white out, found out that it is the ground.Haven't tracked it the whole way down but i'll now guess the yel/grn splices into the switch from the clutch before it gets to the starter.Thank you.
