please place this on the list of dumb shaft questions

I put a new rear tire on my 82 1100G. I of course lubed up the splines when it was apart. I went to the parts staore and picked up some Moly lube. Black nasty stuff that it is. I liberally applied the lub and it was poppng out the axel and such when I reassembled the bike to the wheel.

I just drove the bike about 220 miles and noticed that I have some black moly lube on the wheel. I am assuming this is just because I used a bunch of this stuff and this is just the excess blowing out as I cruise down the highway. Of course if I did something profoundly stupid and am destroying the final drive please let me know.

Thank you again for your patience

      hey there.

it should be ok. make sure it doesnt get on the treads though.

for next time, with Moly60, it doesnt take much to lube up the splines. its really great stuff.

if you used another moly paste, its likely that its moly content is <10%. still better than nothing, but Hondas Moly60 is the way to go.

probably a good idea to change the gear oils too (maybe your one step ahead>?)
