    High idle

I had leaky floatbowl gaskets so I removed the carbs on my '79 gs1000 and replaced them. After reinstalling the carbs I can't get the idle below 1800 rpm when warm. There shouldn't be any air leaks as this was another reason I removed the carbs. The choke seems to open completely and the throttle cable seems to return itself to the normal idle position.

I adjusted the throttle cables until the pully thing the cables are attached to hit the stopper and the choke also looks as if it opens completely because there is a moving arm on each of the carbs that, when pushing the choke cable in, seems to have play in it indicating that the shaft the the arm pushes is in all the way.

Any ideas about the idle speed?
    Thanks

did you try dialing it down with the screw underneath? in the middle, there is a dial that controls the idle speed... or at least on the bikes Ive worked on!!! good luck:-D

No, his VM carbs have an idle adjuster knob underneath, in the middle. Try adjusting it so the bike idles at 1,000/1,100 rpms. The completely warmed up idle speed should be nearly the same as while warming up/choke off. If not, let us know.
And on the seventh day, after resting from all that he had done,God went for a ride on his GS!
Upon seeing that it was good, he went out again on his ZX14! But just a little bit faster!
