    Rear Tire Size Recommandation - 78 Gs1000

I am looking into replacing the tires this winter.

Rear has a 130/90-18 on it right now.

Local shop says that is a little big.
Says he would go 110 or 120 ( A little smaller) said 130 is a little big...

    What do you think ????

    tyres?

Come out standard with a 400x18 (110x18 ) but u can put a 130 on with no problems with handling. Go with a 100/90x19 (3.25x19)on the front to match. Hope this helps Try Bridgestones BT45s

I found it hard to find the 120's. I have 130's on my '79 and haven't heard anyone say that its a problem.

i use the 130\90-18 and have for the last 2 tires, works fine, latest is a bridgestone spitfire that lasts and has good traction.

Pirelli sport demons & Avon Roadrunners are available in 120-90-18 sizes.
One of my parts bikes has a 130 90 18 conti on it, & it seems to be ok.
The larger circumfrence of the tire will change your final drive ratio slightly.
          (more mph per 1000 rpm)

I've been running 130 on the rear for years on my '79 1000E. No problem.
And on the seventh day, after resting from all that he had done,God went for a ride on his GS!
Upon seeing that it was good, he went out again on his ZX14! But just a little bit faster!

I've been through a half a dozen of those on my bike, stick well, handle nice, last OK, prices right. Good tire for the money, very good fit for this bike in the exact size mentioned. The rim is rated for a 120 yes but the GT501 in a 130 fits it just perfect.
