    Starting Problem 79 GS1000

For some reason, the bike will start no matter what position the key and/or the kill switch is in. It will start with key off/on/park and with the kill switch on run/off. Is there a wire connected somewhere that i've goofed up. I think I may have a bad solenoid, but I don't think this is the only problem. Need some advice!!

Sounds like your ignition is continuosly alive. Is the ignition warning light on prior to starting and does it go out when the engine starts? Will the engine stop when either the key or the kill switch is turned to the off position? If you have just bought the bike, the wiring may have been altered by the previous owner. You may even have a closed circuit in one of those switches.
I'm sure you will get the right answer from this site. Good luck.

I have a gs 1000.Mine did something similar. There is a fuse right under the main fuse, number f from the top i think. It comes right off the battery and will make things hot even with the key off.

The ignition is hot no matter what position the key or kill switch is in. When I turn the key on, the green and red lights come on. Have not tried to start it as I have the gas tank disconnected. I'll start it and see if it shuts down, but i doubt it will since it is always hot. I'll check for that fuse.

I would suspect a faulty ignition switch. There will always be power to one side of the switch if the battery is sound; for corrosion in there allowing continuity across several terminals. If it will start with the electric leg it won't be the solenoid. Do you have a wiring diagram?

The ignition WHAT is hot (coils?) there will be power at the switch with the key in the off position, power will go through the switch to the accessories when you turn the key to run. someone may have bypassed the switch? did this just happen?

When I got the bike out of storage I noticed this problem. I've been working on it (when I get time) until now. I don't have a wiring diagram, where could I get one? At this point, the bike turns over with the key in any position, BUT ONLY IF THE KILL SWITCH IS IN THE OFF POSITION?? This was the original problem. ](*,)
