    Dyna III question

I have a question for the forum. I have a Dyna III ignition system with a bad sensor on my 1978 GS1000. I was wondering if anyone on the forum knew where I could purchase a new sensor for this system or am I better off replacing it with a Dyna S?

I'm not new to the forum. I posted under the same name a few years ago. I've just been gone for so long that my account was deactivated.

BTW, I've emailed Dynatek with the same question and I've been looking online, still no results.

The Dyna III is no longer made so I doubt you will be able to get any parts from Dynatek. You might be able to find a used one on eBay but the Dyna S would be a good solution too. You won't need the box anymore.

I cotacted Dynatek today. They said if I mail in the Dyna III, they'll test it and repair it if they can. If not, they'll give me a discount on a Dyna S system.

Did they give you an idea of the turn around time on fixing your Dyna III?

Dosn't really matter the turn around time. The riding seasion is coming to a quick end here in ND and I don't have the MSF card that the Air Force requires. Its an automatic article 15 if you get caught riding without the MSF card, even if you already have your license. Also, I've been rebuilding this bike for two and a half years already so whats another few months?

What method did you use to determine that one of the pick-up sensors was bad ????.......BadBillyB

It turned out to be the module not a pulse coil. I used the troubleshooting guide that came with the ignition system and switched the leads around coming off the pulse coils to the module and the same coil was still fireing. Then I switched the primary leads on the coils and the other coil fired instead. So, in conclusion, both pulse sensors are sending the proper signal to the module, but the bodule isn't doing its job of swithching the #2,3 coil on and off.

Sounds like a pretty thorough diagnosis. I personally would be tempted to keep the Dyna III if the replacement module is priced below 100 bucks. I find it to be more reliable than the DynaS....I have run them both for many years and the Dyna III has the better track record......BadBillyB

I'd replace the module, but I havn't been able to find just the module. I believe that the Dyna III has been discontinued for some time for the GS1000. Dynatek still produces it for some BMW and Moto Guzzi models, but I'm not sure if the modules are the same.
