    Taller seat for a 82 GS1000sv Katana

I am too tall (fat) to fit the low seat on my original Katana. Also, my seat is a perfect original one that I would like to preserve. Will an 1100e seat fit the rear platic seat cowling. Do I replace the seat attach bracket?

Or, do I just get on old katana seat and rebuild it will taller foam?

    Ideas please?

Get another seat. Or lose some weight?

Building up the seat may work, but then you will look taller and fatter... Being both tall and fat I fit on my Kat... but the beer pouch sometimes rubs on the tank. You could just put a padded belly cozy on the tank.

      My problem is my knees..

Ya telling me. I'm a fat bastard, but I can ride an R1 without too much discomfort. And that's with a set of aftermarket rearsets!

The katana is a painful ride right now, mostly because the distance between saddle and footpeg is extremely short... even shorter than my R1. I kinda wonder if the previous owner had cut down the seat or somethin...

I found putting different foot pegs on my kat gained about 1/2-3/4" legroom.

          I'm about 6'2'' 220 with bad knees.

Before I got the new/used foot pegs I removed the rubber from the stockers and shaved the end lip down. I got about a 1/2" from that. Put some clear skateboard grip tape on. It looked a bit crude so I found a flat pair of aluminum pegs off a fzr 600 or kat 600 I can't remember.

3/4" doesn't seem like much but it helps on a long 500 mile ride.
          GS\'s since 1982: 55OMZ, 550ES, 750ET, (2) 1100ET\'s, 1100S, 1150ES. Current ride is an 83 Katana. Wifes bike is an 84 GS 1150ES

It's the knees not the belly

Carter hit the nail on the head. It's the peg to seat distance that is the problem. I have a bum knee that starts to ache if I keep it bent at the extreme frog-like angle the katana requires. Do any of the "standard" GS bikes have a seat that fits the 82 Katana?

And enough cracks about the weight. In certain polynesian cultures I would be the King.

Hoomgar traded me a couple of highway pegs(incl installation) for a sleeping bag at his house on my way down to the 2005 SE rally and they really have saved my right knee and has made it possible for me to ride without extreme pain.

The knee is almost better after a year..due to hydrotherapy O

No other seat will fit!! you are stuck with modifying it or the pegs.
