    Front forks polishment? (scratches)

There is one GS with pretty reasonable price. I went to check it out and it was ok, but someone had tried to "polish" front forks with a sandpaper!! #-o

I mean those inner pipes. How thick is that layer if one would like to polish them back to smooth and shiny? How hard material is it anyway? The sandpaper might have been about P800?? Hard to say but scratches look like quite light anyway..

My current GS850g runs good so far and I would like to get another project.. :-\"

You won't get those scratches out the tubes are chrome

If the only thing wrong with the bike was the forks, and you're even a moderate mechanic, it wouldn't take much to swap the forks out. Or even just the tubes. They probably thought any rust and/or pitting on the forks would drop the price.

You might even use it to your advantage: tell them you're gonna have to replace the forks and you might get the price even lower!

Ok. Thanks for the information. I thought it must be quite hard material...

The bike is classified as 'museum vehicle' and that makes it quite wanted (in good condition). The price is low if it would be good condition, but owner did not think those scratches big deal so I assume that we can't make a deal..

In addition there was some other parts need to be changed too or missing and in my country there aren't so easy to find parts with reasonable prices (due the restoration of those older bikes for museum class => high prices).
