Oil in breather tube?

    Oil in breather tube?

    Is it normal to have oil go in the breather tube and down into the airbox chamber and out the chamber drain? I have never cleaned this tube out and its been 6000 miles before this showed up.I am due for a valve adjustment which I will do next week.Any answers would be helpful.

    it's related to an overpressurization of your crank case..

    could be rings or valves...

      Actually, it's probably perfectly normal.

      If you're talking about a quart of oil, then yes, you have a problem. But over a few thousand miles, a couple of teaspoons of oil and general engine funk is going to make it through the breather tube and into the airbox and generally make things kinda nasty and dirty in there. A little bit inevitably escapes, so things are generally a little oily and funky around the airbox on even the best-kept GS.

      There should be a drain tube attached to the airbox, so it's worth checking that it's routed and attached properly.

        1982 Gs 1100 Breather Tube

        Can The Hole Where The Drain Goes On The Bottom Of The Air Box Be Plugged Or Should I Run The Drain Tube???? Thanks

          I would run the drain tube to keep all the funk off the air filter.
          1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.

            20K for mi on my bike, and my tube and airbox is always dry. Excessive oil is somehow being blown past the screened breather element in your valve cover. Could very well mean you have excessive piston ring blow by. Do a compression check. You should be around 140-150 psi

              1982 Gs1100 Drain Tube

              I Ordered A New Drain Tube From Suzuki To Install On The Bottom Of The Air Box And The End Has A Plug.should I Leave This Plug In The Hose?? Is There Supposed To Be A Rubber Groumet To Hold The Hose In The Air Box ? Thanks

                Im talking a couple of drops on the garage floor.Im going to do a valve clearance adjustment as soon as my feeler gauage I ordered gets here.After I hit 8 g's it's clattering a little more than usual.At first start I have to idle past 2 g's till warm up( 2 minutes) than the clatter is a lot less noisy.Would valves out out adjustment also cause this?I do keep my oil close to full line also.

                  It wouldn't be a drain with a plug;-)

                    A little discharge is normal/acceptable.
                    And on the seventh day,after resting from all that he had done,God went for a ride on his GS!
                    Upon seeing that it was good, he went out again on his ZX14! But just a little bit faster!
