Reserve hose?
There is a open place on the reserve section of my factory petcock, and a barb on the botttom right side of my gas tank. Can I assume this is for the reserve hose to go to?

There should be two fittings on your tank one larger than the other. The smaller one is for the vacuum line for the shut off diagphram. It draws vacuum from between the second & third carbs. The other is for the fuel line to the carbs.

As far as I know, the only other place on the tank where a hose attaches is the drain for the fuel gauge sender. There's a bracket that bolts on around the sender for the fuel gauge that collects (and drains through the hose) any gas that leaks through the gasket between the sender and the tank.

Thanks Paul, Might just be it.Yes factory petcock, I cannot get it to run correctly without it being on prime! You may have nailed it for me. I will stop and get some hose this evening!! Wonder if i hook it to the tank fitting if that will do it?
Thanks.:-D

nope won't work, you will have to do one of three things.
1= drill and tap one of the intake ports so a vacuum nipple (barb if censor kicks in) can be installed to provide vacuum for stock pet cock.
2= modify stock pet cock so it functions like a manual petcock Prime becomes off. (the one on my 83 is this way)
3= install a pingle
there is a option 4 witch is cool and high tech. on the new GM commercial trucks vacuum is still required for the HVAC system so they have a mini electric vacuum pump.
you can get one of these mini vac pumps and wire it in and plumb it to the petcock.
key on it applies vacuum to petcock, key off vacuum stops!
problem is the pump might not be cheep.

Mike, take a good look at the intake side of the carbs. My RS carbs have capped ports on each carb. If you have rubber capped ports pull one of the rubber plugs and attach a vacuum line between the petcock and the port. That's why the bike willl only run on prime.

Ok, Thanks everybody for the help. Leon, I am not talented enuf to try anything close to that!!:-D
Billy, I will look better tonight when I get home. I didn't see any but I was in a hurry.
I am going to send my stockers to wiredgeorge for a complete rebuild and jet service.
I did get it to run decently last night for a little while. Did notice a vent tube/barb on the outer left carb, that when I CHOKE the bike to start, hisses very loudly.

Try & put your finger over that tube. If it draws your finger into it, than you can use it as your vacuum connection for your fuel tank.

I was looking @ the microfish on bikebandit & it looks to me like your vacuum connects to the front of the carb. Look @ the pictuer in this link http://houseofmotorcycles.bikebandit...e~GS1100EZ.asp & see if it looks like what you have. As far as I can tell & from the idea of how vacuum is created, it looks like the right place do draw it from to me. Hope this helps.
