    Pipes

I know this has been asked before, but has anyone tried a 4 into 4 exhaust?

    #2
There have been hundreds of threads about exhaust changes. What in particular are you wondering about? You might want to do a search, you will will get faster info that way compared to waiting for people to post new.

As I asked in main message, 4 into 4.

What would you suggest the text I search on? I have tried "4 into 4", "4 into 4 exhaust".

A 4 into 4 isn't the best thing for power. Honda had a habbit of going individual pipes for a while. It's not a good thing, and it's quite heavy. Combining the exhausts improves scanvenging, and therefore power.

I haven't tried them, but they can't be that bad....Ducati uses a 2-2 setup, after all - though that might have more to do with exhaust noise restrictions.

And Honda, of course, used the 4-4s on their racing machinery for quite some time, includin their GP bikes. Rob Muzzy, notably enough, is on record for favouring 4-4 megaphones for max power.

Superbike racing machines of this time period often had 4-4s:

There are a few examples on that site...

The point of all this is not to disagree with nerobro, but rather that if you really want a 4-4 and are willing to deal with the extra weight, it'll work just fine.

Of course, you'll hafta make it :-D

Sorry, I misread your message. I thought you wanted 4:1.

You are not going to find a premade 4:4 exhaust for your bike. Custom is the only way.

              Good luck.

Ducati's use individual pipes because of their exhaust timing. With a GS you have even exhaust timing, so you can take advantage of other exhaust pulses.

You'll notice that almost nobody uses individual pipes in racing anymore. :-) And they haven't been prevelant since the 60's.

if you're donig it for looks, all the power to you. But if you're looking for power, it's the wrong path to be looking down.

Look carefully, every superbike with an inline engine used a 4-1 for racing. The VFR exhausts are a seperate subject entirely.

                  Very untrue, look harder:

This exhaust configuration was very common in the sixties and was used at least into the late 70s, as evidenced by the Yoshimura prepped Kawi superbikes campaigned in the AMA superbike series of the time, among others.

Show me those bikes. :-) I've never, ever seen a "superbike" with individual pipes. The bike you posted a picture of isn't a superbike. :-)

True, but it is an inline engine - proving that it will work just fine. I don't think ole Soichiro would have been using it otherwise :-D My point is not to argue with you (I have no idea if it will produce optimal power), but rather to show that it WILL work at least reasonably efficiently.

However, ask and ye shall receive:

Hell, they're putting 6 into 6 exhausts on Valkyries (granted not anywhere near a superbike, just super heavy) so why not? I've always been told that a crosspipe would be recommended. I was going to figure out a 4-4 with crosspipe for my CB750 chopper before it became a pipe dream itself.....

I'll be damned :-) On the yoshimura ad those are stock pipes.

4-1's still provide better power. *grins*
