Vance and Hines exhaust for 83 GS1100E

Anybody have any thoughts about this one? I've been looking for a 4 into 1 to replace my stock exhaust, but don't want to spend 500 bucks either. Saw this one on eBay, looks pretty good for the price, not sure about the "chassis modifications" though, not to mention the "no baffle" design, but I think I could work around that.......:-D Anybody install one of these? If so, any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Thats a Sidewinder drag pipe. It's made so that all the pipes come out along the side of the bike instead of underneath so the suspension can be lowered big time for a super low drag bike stance. Actually the rear shocks are removed and replaced with struts and the front forks are lowered with spacers inside and usually only have an inch or two of travel left. You have to do some cutting and welding of the stock rear brake pedal and the foot peg too if memory serves me. Designed without a baffle because drag bikes don't use those. This pipe isn't meant for street bikes although it could be done but it looks really wierd on a normal street bike.

And besides all that you have to re-work your rear brake pedal.....

You'd be better off getting a V&H megaphone system. It allows you to retain the centerstand, and still gives you easy access to the oil drain plug and oil filter cover. Sounds great, nice boost in HP, and pretty cheap at $300 new. You'll need to rejet your carbs if you install it. I have one installed on my bike and it's great.

Thanks for the advice guys, this is a great website! I think I found the correct part# on eBay, although they don't reference this to a Suzuki at all. I emailed them to make sure the part# from the link above (12001) is the one I need!

I had a V&H megaphone on the 81. Nice pipe. Lasted about 12 years before the megaphone rotted off. Great power with pod filters and a jet kit. Nice finish and quality.
