The heck did these carbs come off of?

I bought a set of "1977 GS750 carbs" on ebay that I knew would need rebuilt. The pictures in the auction looked normal enough. Got them today and they look like normal GS carbs, except for the accelerator pump (?) on the bottom. Did any GS'es come with carbs like this? These appear they are missing the pole that would actuate the accel pump. If I were to acquire this, would having the accelerator pump have an real, positive effect on running? These need rebuilt really badly but they look complete minus that pole. Would sudco carry those?

Any info on these would be great

I can't answer your question, but dude, those carbs look really bad!!!!! Hope you don't have any issues getting them apart, I can imagine what the inside of the bowls must look like! I've never rebuilt a set that looked half as bad as those, good luck, and post some pics when you're done!!!!

Probably off a kawasaki KZ1000 and they might be the cool 28mm carbs. Put up a pic of the engine side of one of the throats and I will be able to tell what size they are. Dan

Heh, yea, they don't look too great. The first set that I acquired and cleaned/rebuilt were in about the same shape. They came out looking and working like new so I am not too worried about getting these cleaned up. Just may take a couple days' worth of soaking in the carb cleaner!

Here's what the first set of carbs looked like after I was finished:

Here are some better pictures of what I am working with (got unlazy enough to grab the real camera):

They also came with some old school velocity stacks on them (can see them in the first pic) so who knows what kind of jetting is in them. Can't wait to dig in and see. I took off one of the bowls and it looks pretty nasty, but I'm not scared ;-)

Yep those are 28's might be too big for a stock GS750 which came with 26mm carbs. They would be great for a GS1000. Dan

Dangit, I just wanted a friggin set of carbs that I could at least use for parts, and definately something that would fit my 750. Dan, what do you recommend I do with these? Is it not worth the rebuilding process to try them on my 750? Or at least what did these come off of (year/model, if anyone knows) so I can at least have that knowledge if I sell them to get a normal gs750 set.

I've got a set of stock VM26's on my future beast project ('78 GS1000)bike that I will trade with you straight accross. I'm going to be boring out the engine to an 1100, so I'm looking for something bigger than the 26's. They are dirty on the outside, but the bike runs fine. I may even have the stock jets for your 750. PM me if interested.

Hmmmm.....my 28's don't have that cool accelerator-pump thingy on the bottom. Were they possibly off of a different make; ie. Kawasaki?

leeham, I did get them pretty inexpensively but it seems that nobody on the forums has any faith in restoring parts like this! Just takes a bit of elbow grease and a big old can of carb dip.

hp1000s, it looks like they came off of a KZ1000. When all cleaned up I'm sure these would look pretty cool with that accel pump sticking off underneath.
