    '81 U.S. models use non adjustable needles. If not part of a jet kit, your carbs must be Canadian or? They should have 5 positions if stock. I'd try 2 positions richer than whatever your stock e-clip position is.
    And on the seventh day,after resting from all that he had done,God went for a ride on his GS!
    Upon seeing that it was good, he went out again on his ZX14! But just a little bit faster!

      Well, I found out that the needles ARE adjustable, six notches, which means that someone did SOMEthing to the carbs. The main jets were 120 instead of the factory 112.5, the pilot (main?) air jet was 170, which I assume is stock since the info says 1.7, and I couldn't read the sizes of the pilot jet as the ones that came with the carb were in pretty bad shape. However, the person I'm getting the carbs from says he can send me the jets that I need, so I told him a 45 pilot jet, 122.5 main jet, 180 pilot main air jet.

      I'm thinking that maybe when the "jet kit" was installed on my bike the PO was still running an airbox and/or still had the baffle in the pipes, so they only went with a stage 2 kit. Either that or he just swapped things out till it ran decent. Don't know how, considering the air idle screws are screwed ALL the way in from the looks of it and frozen solid. I do know that they probably quit riding it because the stator was shot, as it had a huge burned spot when I examined it. I've already replaced it and am going over all of the wiring VERY carefully.

      I was just thinking back to when I got my first fuel-injected car, a '90 Olds Cutlass Calais, my dad went postal saying he'd never own an injected car, you couldn't work on it and it didn't run nearly as good as a carburetor. Considering that I never had so much as a hiccup from any fuel injected car and I've rebuilt a ton of automotive carbs, I'd much rather have a fuelie bike.

      What's really funny is now my dad is driving a Tacoma with multi-port injection and he loves it. This is the same man that started his '63 Ford Falcon van with a screwdriver for a year because he was too cheap to buy a solenoid......
