    VM26 vs VM28

I'm getting ready to start my "Project Beast" endeavor. A 78 GS1000, bored to 1100, falicon crank, etc. I was wanting to put on some VM29's, but they are so hard to come by. I will be acquiring some VM28's from I think a KZ1000. They have the accelerator pump on them. Will these give me any performance gains over dynojetted VM26's? Will I be able to put a dynojet kit in them? Any other comments, opinions, suggestions?

Bruce I am in the same boat as you I also have 28's coming. My motor will be stock except for mild port work and a cam ground to my wishes (specs). With my varied engine experiance I think the gains with 28's should be noticable. The only thing I don't like about them is single mixture screw arangement. I will post my finding with these carbs and maybe we can come to a concensus. Dan

The problem with using the Kaw carbs is they have different slides, different air jets and if I remember right different bleeder pipes in them. Jetting might be a problem. It would be better but near impossible to source a set from a GS1000S model....The 29 smoothbores would IMO be a better choice for your motor size if they were originally set up for a Suzuki. Dont expect big gains when going from the stock 26's to the 29's as you may be disappointed. The only gains are going to be in the upper RPM range. I have a set of 28 Kaw carbs sitting in a junk box and they have accelerator pumps on them and also have pilot fuel screws on the bottom like a Suz carb ......They are good for parts so if you need anything off them PM me and hope I check my box.........BadBillyB

I have not really looked them over good, but I think they are in A-1 shape. They dont actually belong to me but my buddy that owns them has lost interest in his old GS now that he rides a Bandit....I am pretty sure they are available....As far as I know the only thing missing from them is the needle jets. I will look them over a little closer Monday as they are at my shop. Keep in mind that they have the Kaw slides in them as stated above......If really interested I can e-mail you a couple pics.......BadBillyB
