GS550 carbs on a 750?
What MM are GS550 carbs? I'm trying to find a set of 32MM CV's for my '81 GS750 and found a set for a 550. I'm going to have to rejet anyway, so that's not a problem, but will they work?Tags: None

My money is no. I"m fairly sure the GS750 has a different carb spacing from the 550, 650, and 850's. If it's not.... Party on. :-) Who's got the carb spacing handy for a 750-1100?You'd have to be crazy to be sane in this world -Nero
If you love it, let it go. If it comes back....... You probably highsided.
1980 GS550E (I swear it's a 550...)
1982 GS650E (really, it's a 650)
1983 GS550ES (42mpg again)
1996 Yamaha WR250 (No, it's not a 4 stroke.)
1971 Yamaha LT2 (9 horsepower of FURY.)

If you still have the old carbs, and the spacing is in fact different (and assuming the throat size matches), couldn't you use the rails and choke linkage from the old carb rack so the new carbs would be spaced correctly?

The shafts would be the wrong lengths. You'd have to be crazy to be sane in this world -Nero

Thanks! I know the throat size AND the spacing are both off with carbs from an 1100, since that's what I was originally going to use. The 750 uses 32mm, the 1100 uses 34mm, I was wondering if the 550 used 32mm.....will await answers. Can't measure them side by side right now.

Where does it say the model number on the carbs? I've been trying to find it on the 750 and 1100 carbs with no success.

Okay, found the post, now I'm seeing double. I found this:
83 GS550E
Mikuni BSW30SS 30 mm
and this:
GS550 (80-82)
carb mik bs32ss (4 seprate carbs)
Did they put smaller carbs on the newer bikes? I still don't know if the 80-82 GS550 carbs will fit my GS750E.
There were no specs for the 750, either.

Ignore the 83-86 GS550's. They're actually GSX550's :-) And yes, the carbs got smaller. the carbs on the GS550 from 80-82 are way to big for the motor.
The 32mm carbs will support 70-80hp.
I think the point is though.. the carbs should'nt fit. You'd have to be crazy to be sane in this world -Nero

Het,
What condition are the 34mm 1100 carbs you have in?
I can take the 750 32's off my 1100 and trade up with you providing all is good with yours. Are all your pilot screws free and can be removed?
Are the Bodys all good? Diaphrams Good?
Are they Fuel tight(no leaks between carbs at fuel tubes etc.)?
Mine are all good. The jets will need replacing prob cause if I remember rihgt when I removed the original jets they were in poor cond.
Let me know and I can take them off and switch out the jets and all I changed to get them to work on mine.
