Before you take the tank off, I just wanted to make sure the petcock is not set to Prime. If it is set to ON or RES the gas you have coming from the leaky carb should stop after the float bowl is empty. If more than a bowlful leaks out, you have both a leaky petcock and a leaky carb. The Prime postion allows fuel to flow into the carbs by gravity whether the engine is running or not.
Believe in truth. To abandon fact is to abandon freedom.

    Nature bats last.

I've done a lot of searching, and I'm still a bit confused about taking off the tank properly. Do you guys agree with these instructions, other than anything that might be BMW specific: http://faq.f650.com/FAQs/Gas_Tank_Re...%20REPLACEMENT

I've pretty much gotten my mindset into rebuilding the carbs myself and tackling it soon. I have learned to NOT try and "fix" what isn't broken but after sitting for 2 years, I realize it needs to be done... if I can managee that and study the electrical schematics a member sent to me well enough to feel confident of that (among other things) I probably will end up stripping this down to the frame before Spring comes. I'm in no hurry to ride it, just to make her nice... I'll be counting on you folks and know I couldn't be in better hands... just hope I can give back just as much in the future. You're the best

I'm thinking we need to stop by Shirl's place and show her some basics. I know that would've helped me something fierce.

I'm thinking that is a really good idea. And I'm thinking I'll have my note pad handy.

I was lucky enough when I was younger to have some people explain to me how engines work and some auto basics, but this is a slightly different ball game, and I'm in it pretty much by myself, other than you folks and a few friends who can occasionally come out and lend a hand. My mom will make brownies, I'm sure, like she did when my buddy came out the other day, but I forgot to bring a spatula out to the barn, so I grabbed what was handy... something I think my grandpa made, "many moons ago" as he would have said...

If the weather holds, I might be able to make it out there sometime this week for a couple of hours. Perhaps Wed. or Thurs.

Now that she's running as well as she is, I'm just dying to go ANYWHERE!

Cool! I'm sure it's a beautiful trip out here, even tho everything looks dead already. I really need someone who understands these bikes, in person to help me figure out what is what and what kind of shape I am in. Plus I want to show her off and it's about time we met in person. Don't let my mom's brownies scare you... they aren't always packing butcher knives... besides I know some better places to eat!

Supposed to be nice both days, if a little cloudy on Wed. Either work better for you?

If waiting to find out doesn't inconvenience you too much, I'll let you know specifics a little bit later.

Sucks, I know, but while I make my own schedule, it isn't always in my control!

No problem - my weekdays are pretty much on my own terms unless I have dentist appointments or whatever, but this week is clear so far. My cell phone number is on my website, in my sig, so whatever is good for you will work for me!
