I can assure you that a NGK D8EA spark plug (original equipment for my GS 1100 & 1150's), baught at Checkers for $2.00 will be exactly the same as a NGK D8EA baught at a motorcycle shop for $10.00. It would take a really hi-tech spark plug to know if it was purchased from a motorcycle shop, an automobile parts store, or Wal Mart. I really don't think something like that has been developed yet.

        Wait a minute, I think Mercedes-Benz just made one.......and it costs about $350 a plug.........j/k\\/

Seriously, though, NGK is THE brand when it comes to bikes. I've never had a problem with them. In CARS, that's another story.....I changed the plugs in a friends newer Corolla, and about a week later it started running like crap. I bought the plugs the "auto parts store" recommended. After talking to my mechanic friend (ASE certified) he told me that I had to use iridium plugs only in that car and they ended up costing $14 EACH! $56 to change the plugs on an ECONOMY car?!?! The plugs in my wife's Camry cost me $8.24 and it runs like a charm.

What are the advantages of an iridium plug, anyway? (other than screwing people out of their money)
