Also..where you completely stopped while the chirping continued?? If not, it could also be your speedo gear. Mine used to make a really load squeal that sounds like it came from the engine.

You could pull the cable off and give it a good lubeing and just for grins, ride around without it on and see if the noise is present. You should'nt have any oil leaking from the tach gear if the oil seals are good.

So a cable gear can make that terrible of a noise?? Knowing that makes me feel better, maybe it was just something to do with one of the cables. The noise did stop after I slowed down and pulled over and did start up again when I took off.
I supose if it were something mechanical in the engine it wouldn't have stopped when I pulled over huh?
I'll bet it was the tach cable end got jammed or something when the cable fell out of tach and then caused the drive gear to grind in place. Man I hope that was it, that would be much better than other alternatives.
