From what I can see on the fiche, the diaphragms cost over $84.00 EACH!!!??. Holy cow! Maybe cheaper to convert this bike to fuel injection (not!)

You'll have to have the diaghragms pressed on. I've seen some sites that do this. Did you check the diaphragms against a bright light and they have pinholes?
It's better to buy some used carbs with good diaphragms.1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.
1985 GS1150ES stock with 85 Red E bodywork.

Haven't had any time off from work yet to check it out. Will work on it as soon as I can. Found the $84 each price at Flat Out Motorcyles, where I get almost all my other parts. I still can't believe they cost that much. Blew me away.

The replacement tank I put on my Shadow was pristine, but there was enough crud on the inside to warrant a good cleaning. Just cause something looks good on the outside......
I wouldn't glue the diaphragms, because if you use the wrong glue you'll destroy them and then you WILL be out $84 each. If there are pinholes, they can be repaired.
I think the screens are your best bet.
