    Newbie with a Few Questions

    Hello All,

Recently purchased a 1980 or 1981? GS250T street bike for a dune buggy project I'm working on. It has 35K on it and it's been sitting since 1988. But due to good old Suzuki engineering I got it running a few days ago. Sounds pretty good.

My question is what should I look for with the mileage the engine has on it? Valve adjustment, clutch etc.

    Thanks in advance,

    SP

Bring all the basic maintance up to current: oil, oil filter, valve adjust. Check the air filter and spark plugs and change as necessary. Other than that, if it runs well...ride.

Being a "dune buggy project", I would be cautious about using an air-cooled motorcycle engine.

Most of the time, the engine ends up being put behind the drivers seat, out of the airflow. This is asking for overheating, esp. as you won't be going that fast most of the time.

If you're going to use the engine, you might want to consider rigging up some sort of electric fan to help get flow across the engine.

Also, I suggest running it on a synthetic oil to help take the punishment you'll be dishing out. :-D

Yes it will be a "behind" the seat engine. I was wondering about airflow requirements myself. Great idea about the fan I'll start to look for one.

        Thanks,
