    setting flaps

hi when setting up the flaps (butterflies) on a gsx550 should the flaps be fully closed when setting up the carbs or should they be set up so the are slightly open ( infront of the little drilling idle channels as in the engine side or behind as in carb side) cheers andy

As a starting point for a manual synch, you can use a straight pin as a feeler guage for setting clearance on each carb the same. (stick the straight pin into the end of a wooden match and put a slight bend in the pin so you can more easily hold it in place to set up)

hi thats great so the throttle flaps (butterflies) should be almost closed if they are to be the thickness of a pin making them cover up the little holes cheers andy

Yes. All four should begin to open at precisely the same instant.
