Need Help On 550 Carbs Again

I have 4 sets (16) of carbs that are supposedly off 1980 gs 550's. I have cleaned them completely. It took 4 sets to get all carbs alike . Or so I thought. After cleaning I could not find a number on the needle jets. I assumed that since they looked as if they had never been opened the needle jets were correct. WRONG! When I started running it the plugs tell me it is slightly rich. I got a loupe and looked at the needle jets again. I found the numbers and letter combination on all of them. NONE were X-6 jets. I have X-5's, X7's but no X-6's.What is going on here? Is this normal? Why the different sizes? HELP !!!!!!

According to the factory manual, the BS32SS CV type carbs should have X-6 N.J.'s - for all years. Sorry, I have no idea why you are finding something different..

I am really wondering if there was a mod that everyone knew at one time that corrected a problem. This is more mind boggling than boneless chicken.

Since you stated that you had 4 individual carb banks, I'm wondering if you know what carb went to which bank. It may be possible that you mixed some modded carbs. Have you kept track of which body came from which bank? It may be possible that you've not used any carb with the X-6, and if that's the case you could probably just swap out the necessary parts.

I have one bank of carbs with X-5 jets. I have one bank of carbs with X-7 jets. Another bank has X-7's and X5's both. The other bank has two jets I cannot identify. I have two different length's slide's. I have a collection of main jets in four sizes. The bank of carbs that is on the bike have everything correct ( according to the book ) except for the needle jets. This is driving me nuts. Does anyone know what the difference in performance is for these sizes? Is an X-5 richer than anX-7? I cannot find any specs on any needle jets. Are the jets needle specific. Can you use 4BEL 2 needle's with the other sizes? The hell of it is the bike ran fairly well with a mixture of jets, needles, slides and main jets that weren't according to the book. I fervently hope someone here has some knowledge about the jets.
