Oil Seal Kit for a '78 GS1000?
I searched but couldn't find anyone selling one. I saw this on ebay:
and sent the seller a question on whether or not it came with oil seals. No response yet. I don't really need all the gaskets... I think you just have to make a list, check it thrice, and order from your favorite Suzuki parts supplier. It's a pain in the rear, since the stuff you need is scattered over three or four blurry fiche pages.
The Athena gasket set shown comes with all the top-end stuff (other than no intake o-rings, no tach cable seals, and no tensioner seals, for some reason), but only the case cover gaskets for the bottom end. You don't even get an oil filter cover o-ring.
Also, I wasn't very impressed with my encounter with Athena stuff -- they worked, but Vesrah gasket sets are much better quality.1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.

Bruce, in 20 plus years of working on these 2V 1000"s, I have never heard of anyone selling seal kits. I always just bought them from Suzuki "as needed"....Being a former drag racer requiring 3 or more tear downs in a year, I never replaced them unless they were leaking. When you torque the case halves together, the cases will "pinch" the edges of the seal, right at the parting surface.....What I would do is "rotate" the seals on every re-installation. The little spot where they were "pinched", I would apply a very small dab of Yamabond on it for a sure seal.....If you look at your old seals you will see the "pinched" areas I am speaking of.....I guess the trick to getting a good seal is the actual installation. Making sure that every one is perpindicular to the cases. I think you will find the seals are a little "pricey" especially the R side crank seal.....Lets see, there are only 4 seals in the bottom end that need attention...Countershaft seal, shift shaft seal, round plug at the end of the input shaft (left side) and the R crankshaft seal....There are 2 tear drop shaped "o" rings between the cyl block and the upper case half, but they come with the gasket sets. As far as the top end, there are just the 1/2 moon seals at the valve cover and the two pieces at the tach drive...They do not come with the gasket sets....Good luck with your motor build.
