runs for a couple minutes
just done a build on the carbs(78gs 750-vm26ss)fired the motor up and she run like a top(minor adj. needed)only thing is shell die after a minute or two like i shut the ignition off.nothing hot sept the pipes....thing is....ive got a toggle hooked up to the coils (dyna s )off is off and on lights the coils up.no keyed switch, just a push button running juice to the starter.my conclusion is something just quits electronic wise.just what?cause as the motor dies and i tap the starter button,it will stay running till i let off...crazy project going on here and im bummin....any help from the pros would be great..thanks for the time,mike..Tags: None

Two things. How old is the battery? And have you rebuilt the petcock?
This seems to be mainly a fuel issue, so the petcock could be the culprit. Also, did you rebuild the carbs? IE take them completely apart and replace O-rings and clean the passages. Did you use a carb dip?

I bought an 850 one time that had the wrong ohm coils on it and it did the exact same thing till I replaced them then it was fine. Just another thing to check.

running probs
how do, it sounds like fuel to me or is it called gas in the us, check the fuel comes out of the tap, or it could be a problem i had when the breather hole was blocked in the fuel tank cap, take the cap off alltogether and run the bike, if your bike has a breather pipe from the tank make sure its not blocked, best of british luck old boy.

Was this something that happened after you worked on carbs? Did you just get the bike and don't know? If this is a new problem it's probably fuel related as previously mentioned, Is your petcock hooked up right? Have you got 4 inches of fuel in tank? Screen on petcock plugged? Lever on petcock pointing straight down? Smaller line to carb nipple? 79 and older take a dif. ohm coil than the 80 and newer. That was my problem when I bought the bike. Previous owner took bike to shop and they installed wrong coils, as an upgrade.

The way I discovered my problem was that I had a test light monitoring the coils and the bike running. The spark would just die out. I just ordered stockers used off Ebay and replaced them. I don't really know how the test goes. Maybe start a new thread asking if anyone knows how to test ohms on a coil.
