What happens without the plugs is the fuel is drawn without the air drawn pressue from the main jet passage which inturn may cause a flooding affect at lower atmospheric pressure and lean at high atmospheric pressure...This was a desighned so with the plugs in place was suppossed to keep the bike from running to rich at high altitude. you may not notice any difference below sea level without the plugs but at anything above 2000 ft. you should notice that you are running way to rich. Where with the plugs it would be still rich but not near as much.....just what I was taught.....In Japan.....at the Nissan development division.....That is why Nissan went to fuel injection on the race cars in the late 70's for high altitude races and stayed with multiple carb set ups for lower altitude races...Keith I'm not trying to say your wrong just sharing what I learnd. I saw the effect of the plug in test situations, multi CV mikuni carbs on race motors...yes from flat side to dual throats we did them all trying to get the extra edge on the track, yes cars a different from bikes but internal combustion is the same principle...Just my 2 cents worth...
    Later ride safe all
