    GSX1100 exhaust on a GS1000

Hi all I have been looking but I cannot seem to find a definate reply to wether a ?1983 GSX1100 exhaust system will fit on a 1979 GS1000L. Some say yes and some say no. There is a nice pair listed on our equivalent to your ebay. They were originaly advertised as GS1000 and then changed to GSX1100. On looking at the picture they have a flat section instead of a round collector but otherwise look like a GS1000 exhaust. Are the headers longer on a GSX1100. If it is only the hangers that need changing for the rear mounting thats fine. Thank's

the GS 1100 "E" exaust will not work on a GS 1000 "E", Not sure about the "L" models

That GSX1100G was the big shafty with a tuned down GSX-R motor in it. Chances are its not a straight swap unless ya throw a blow torch in the equation.

        Hi

        I have a 4-1 Laser for 1100 GSX on my GS1000G.
The downpipes is ca. 2cm longer than they need .(clearense below frame).
On this exhaust the tubes is not welded together, so I do not know if the distanse between the exhaust holes on the sylinder heads is different....

The header pipes will fit fine, into the head, but from the collector back is where The problem was on mine. I was trying to use a GS 1000 pipe on my GS1100. I got it all mounted, but the whole back of the pipe stuck out about 6" to the side of the bike. Straight line riding was OK, but couldn't lean to the right, & it looked really funny. By this, I would be sure if you try to put a GS 1100 pipe on a GS 1000, it would be opposite of the problem I had, & be stuck way up under the bike. If itgoes as far inside as mine went outside, the pipe will be against the tire.

The brackets for the rear-peg/muffler mounts on the 1100's, is an Aluminum casting that will hold a 1000E pipe outwards...1000E frames had narrower welded-on steel tube brackets.

Yes I let the first set of pipes for the GSX1100 go they sold for around $71 NZ dollars, and have just found another from a GSX1100 4 into 2. They fit well and sound great only problem is the two little covers below the gear and brake levers are about 1/2 inch off being in the right place.
