    Sluggish Throttle

    I own an 85 GS550L and I have noticed, even when the bike has had time to warm up (apprx 10 min or so) that my throttle is very sluggish. I have had to open her all the way and still have very little acceleration for several seconds and then it guns real fast. Anyone have any ideas about what could be the cause? I'm thinking maybe the carbs are sticky but I'm a beginner and don't really know much about them. Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Blocked Jets? Maybe it's only the mains that are clear....

      Check all seals on airbox (including airbox lid or door) and intake. You should have o-rings behind the intake boots. Pull you carbs off and follow this great carb clean up bible.

        Is it necessary to completely disassemble the carbs, or could they just be taken out and soaked in carb cleaner all still connected together intact?

          Yeah you have to take them all the way apart. The carb cleaner will eat away any rubber/plastic parts that are in there. Follow the pdf. file and you will be fine. It's pretty easy. Getting the carbs in and out is the tough part.
