Where can I buy a carb rebuild kit?

    Hi All,

Sorry for the new thread, but I can't find an online store (or eBay auction) that is selling a carb rebuild kit for a 1981 GS450.

    I've looked at:
    cycles128.com
    z1enterprises.com
    bikebandit.com
    oldbikebarn.com
    alpha-sports.com

    plus a few more I can't remember...

Can anybody recommend a source for this?

    Thanks,
    Matt

Find out what size your carbs are Example BS34ss BS32ss ......
Find a bike that has the same size carbs as yours and buy the kit but clean and reuse your mikuni jets. Do not use the jets in the kit.
1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.
    1985 GS1150ES stock with 85 Red E bodywork.

Very knowledgeable guy to deal with. He has helped many of us with the infamous "No p/n listing for GS air/fuel screws issue" issue.

You will need new O-rings for sure but not necessarly anything else until you look inside. Some of the commonly available carb rebuild kits (such as the ones on ebay) use aftermarket jets which may or may not be correct for your carbs. Do a search on this and read what others have said on the subject.

Matt: I got mine at Z-1 Enterprises, between them and Dennis Kirk ,they were the cheapest. Good luck and safe riding, ikazuki

try www.wemoto.com, I brought 4 for my GS850 - includes gasket, float valve + needle.
£10 each, they supply to the US too.

If they don't list it, call. Great people.

Personally, I've NEVER been happy with the shoddy, low-rent junk found in any brand of rebuild kit, even the ones from CRC2.

I'd highly recommend buying a set of o-rings from Robert Barr (you'll get enough to do your two carbs twice!) and a couple of bowl gaskets. Carefully clean and re-use your orginal jets and other parts. Reassemble with new o-rings and bowl gaskets, carefully check and set float height, and enjoy.

              Here's Robert's web site:

Use the carb cleaning series as your guide, modifying a bit since you only have two carbs to deal with:
              1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.
              2005 KLR685, Aztec Pink - Turd II.3, the ReReReTurdening
2015 Yamaha FJ-09, Magma Red Power Corrupts...

                Thanks for the info

So, it sounds like I don't need a rebuild "kit" per se. I've already inspected the jets and other parts. The jets look just fine. I'll look into ordering the O-rings.

From what I can tell, the problem is that one of the diaphragms is compromised (no longer sealed) and thus isn't raising as it should be. I've got an extra set of carbs with a good diaphragm that I plan to use.

I'll update this thread once I get the parts.

                Thanks again!
