    Kickstart on 82 550

I was just thinking for my trike project. Its an 82 GS550L. Could I get a kickstart setup and clutch cover from a pre 80 GS550 and install it? or is there internal differences in the post 80 2 valve 550's. To me it just looks like the covers are not drilled for the kickstart mechanism.

I'm thinking that you'll need the complete lower case and trans. Not positive though...but if it's like other bikes that i've worked on, the internal gears are not interchangeable. Just .02 cents.

Don`t know if this is any help, but I have a 550 motor intended for my next chop. I think its out of an 82 bike, but am not sure, though the cover on the rhs has no hole for a kick start. The engine has been stripped, and inside the crank cases have been milled to take kick start gear. I guess our Suzuki pals stopped putting in the kickstarter but did`nt go to the expense of altering the crank case moulds. I got hold of a kickstarter mechanism and sidecase from a breakers, and fitted them ok. Might be worth pulling the cover to see if the hole is in the crankcase side where the kickstart shaft should be, if it is, you are in business.

tomo, thats what I was hoping, that they still have the internal parts cut for the fitment of a kickstart.
