    ND or KD

I'm getting a dyns s upgrade for my points... ND or KD? What is the difference by the way? Here is a pic of my points that I dug up.

    ND vs.KD

ND is Nippon Denso, which I believe made most of the ignition systems on the GSes; I know my '78 GS 750 is ND. Maybe someone elso out there can enlighten us. Guys?

found this and copied it from another thread :

"Also, the two types use a different rotor, and they are not interchangeable. The mechanical advance unit make you use will determine the dyna style you need, either ND (Nippondenso) or KD (kokusan) Ask which it is when you buy one Mechanical advance units for ND systems used points held to the breaker plate with one screw. Advance units for KD systems used points held to the breaker plate with two screws."

can anyone verify that this is correct? Thanks again.

I pulled a set of points out of a kit for my 77 750, with ND points. They are not the same as yours. MY 78 550 has the K variety but I do not have a set in the house and it is too cold and dark for me to go exploring tonight. I believe they both have 1 screw.

Go to www.z1enterprises.com. Best price in town for the Dyna-S

Two types of Dyna-S systems available for Suzi's, the DS3-1 & the DS3-2. Here's a link for the -1, with instructions on how to check your bike for the type of ignition you have.

Z1 Enterprises specializes in quality Motorcycle parts for Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha Classic Japanese motorcycles from the 1970's and 1980's.

            It says:
1977-78 GS550 & GS750 bikes, some of these models came with a ND ignition advancer, for these bikes a different Dyna-S is required. How do you tell? Take off the points cover, the ignition advancer should be stamped with KD (Kokusan Densi) or ND (Nippon Densi). If you have a ND unit, see the DYDS3-2.

            Hope that helps.

The picture you posted shows a set of KD points. Here's a link to a picture of the KD points.

Thanks guys for all the info. I think that mine are KD... and the fact that rgierer has ND and single screw versus my dual screws verifies my suspicion. Thanks Tom for the link... I actually already read that at z1 but I couldn't find the kd/nd stamp anywhere. I had previously changed the points so these could be after market or something. Thanks guys as always.

just read that Jeff.. thanks for the links... my points are deff.. KD thanks again

Just bought the S system today... can't wait for it to get here... didn't know z1 was located in NY, had to pay 8% sales tax. Hope a % of those extra 10 bucks goes into improving some of the roads around here... lol Thanks again guys for all the help.
