gs550 gas tank question

Hello everyone,

I am new to the world of GS motorcycles and need some assistance. I just picked up an 84 GS550EF and I need to replace the gas tank. From what I can tell, the tanks from an 83-86 550E series will fit. Is this correct? Also is there any other tank that will fit from either a different year or different model (i.e gs750E)?

only those tanks are going to fit that, tanks usually change size according to the engine size, bigger engine, bigger tank.

Thanks Tarbash, I wasn't sure, because I know that tanks from a 600 katana are no different than a 750 tank. I was hoping that it was the same with the gs550 to widen my search.
