    Gauge cluster compatibility?

Need new idiot light portion of the gauge cluster, and am having a hard time finding a match for my rare 1981 650 E gauges. The idiot light section is completely separate from the tach and speedo and wedges in between them. It does not have a fuel level gauge.

Everything I see on eBay has all the gauges as more of a single molded unit, or if it's a center idiot light cluster, it has a fuel gauge.

So I may have to go with another year/model of gauges. While I'm at it, I'd like to get something with a faster-than-80mph speedo. Can anyone tell me if the mounting brackets are fairly interchangeable between GS years/models? How about the wiring? Will I have much trouble with 1970's gauges, either with wiring or mounting? The 70's gauges seem to have the look and high-speed speedo that I want.

    Thanks.

The speedo and tach are cable driven so they dont matter. The idiot lights may or may not have the correct cable connectors but the wiring works the same. So worst case you will have to put your cable connectors on.

Anyone have any idea if Honda, Yamaha, or Kawa speedos/tachs will mate with our Suzuki cables?

YOu an use one from a EARLY 81 650G as these did not have a fuel gauge. made until the summer of 81 I think. The electricals should click right in, they are all pretty much the same for that year.
1981 GS650G , all the bike you need
1980 GS1000G Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely

I would not recommend trying a different brand. The gearing may be different and no longer give an accurate reading for either gauge.
