    leaky carb..bad crank case????

i read somewhere someone had gas leaking out of carb and turned out to flow into crankcase .well ive had issues with gas leaking for two weeks no matter what i do. now tank is removed and carbs are torn down new needles and seats on the way .should i tear down my crankcase to check for gas or can i just drain oil to see if gas has entered somewhere ????

If you suspect you have gas in the crankcase, just change the oil. Also if your petcock is working well, you shouldn't have gas running into your carbs when the bike is off.

yea i cant even tell what the petcock says thanks to P.O. who painted everything to cover up rust .i have messed with it and it seems to work various positions offer straight through ,others are nothing. so, i think ill play with it and maybe even add a shut off .

If in doubt, replace the fuel petcock. If you have the original it is probably due to be replaced anyway and you can rule it out for any future carb adjustment / fuel supply issues. I replaced mine when they bacame hard to turn from on to reserve. Most of the orig equiptment ones are still available for around 40 - 50 bucks. Even if you have a rat bike fuel getting into the crankcase will definately hurt the motor and could cause a safety issue.

          gettin better all the time

well ,finished cleaning carbs, revamped and ready to go. reassembled bike, put it into what i thought was prime ,filled the carbs,[-o< fired right up first time .\\/.she hasnt sounded this good since i bought her almost a year ago for a scrawny 500 . cut her off and noticed fuel still leaking out of carb. being the rational thinker that i am i cut my brand new fuel line in half (dont worry it wasnt fancy) and played with the petcock. from there eventually she shut off fuel in the down position . since the face has been painted over by PO im not sure what down is but im gonna guess off. anyhow i went to the dealer and ordered a new one just to be safe , should be here by friday. ..o and bike bandit had orlando suzuki beat by 20 bucks of course when you factor in shipping maybe it was still a deal?....
