    Source for Chain/Sprockets

I'll be in need of both sprockets and a new chain for the '78 GS750C. Where is the best place to purchase all three at a reasonable price? The manual indicates that the chain is type RK630-SO and 96 links. Does anyone know the number of teeth on the primary and final drive sprockets? I can't find this information in my manuals.

    Thanks

Talk to Jeff at Z1 Enterprises. http://www.z1enterprises.com/

I got my replacement sprockets and chain there. Did a 530 conversion for my 1100EZ.

Great prices, lots of knowledge, and excellent customer service.
        I've never been disappointed.

Just be sure and get the best quality o-ring chain you can afford. The cheap ones stretch like crazy.

            530 Chain Conversion

I've seen a number of references to the 530 chain conversion. Just wondering what are the pluses and minuses of this change? Does it simply involve changing both sprockets and the chain? Since I need to replace all three should I go with the 530 chain?

The pros to the conversion is a lighter weight chain and less centrifugal mass, I think. I don't know of any cons.

I'll bump this up because I'm curious what the conversion is and why I'd want to do it.

530 chain is about 1lb lighter, just about as strong, and cheaper. The variety of chain is much more extensive - non o-ring, o-ring, x=ring, w-ring and more - plus numerous colors. 630 chain is either non o-ring or o-ring. Essentially the chain manufacturers stopped development on 630 chain years ago - other than the KZ1000 Police bikes, there hasn't been a stock bike running 630 chain since the late 80's.

All the new sportbikes run 530 chain or variants of this (like 532).

Being the chain is driven weight, the reduced weight does give you a small amount more power at the rear wheel.

Ya, like I'm going to notice! :-D Just kidding! I admire the people that go through the conversion, I just took the simple route with mine, and replaced chain and sprockets with the same 630 size components. I'm pretty sure it's gonna be the last set I buy. I'm getting kind of old and the chain will probably out last me.

BTW- I bought a non o-ring chain once because I heard somewhere that if you are religious about lubing and maintenance, a non o-ring chain will last as long as an o-ring version. Big mistake! I wouldn't do that again.

I bought a non "O" ring chain for my 1150 once. It lasted exactly a mile and a half before the throttle snapped the chain, pulling the sideplates completely off the pins. LOL Hadda push the beast back home. ehehe
The clip master link stayed on though. :-)

In my mind, the 530 conversion would be a must because it's so much easier to get the chain, master links, sprockets, etc. If you lose a master link clip out on some lonely highway, just about every passing squid will have a spare 530 link. If you still had a 630 chain, you'd be waiting a LONG time...

But what do I know? Both my bikes are shafties...

What are the differences between the chains themselves. Or is there a site that explains it?
