84 gs 550 not firing right
Ok I have an 84 gs 550 es I paid around 50 bucks for it I ve got everthing cleaned up and ready to go but I cant get it running right .th problem is Im only getting spark on one side and when i changed the wiring around it sparked on the other side so what am I looking at the ingintor or what this thing is driving me crazy I know its ready to run because it will start with starter fluid on only two cylinders.anothr question is where i can find an air filter or air box I had to cut the old one off ThanksTags: None

It could be the signal generator or the igniter. Remove your ignition cover and check the wiring to the 1-4 and 2-3 pickups. Then check the wiring to the igniter. It shouldn't be a problem with the coils since you're getting spark from each one so I'd say it's either the signal generator or the igniter.1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.

Big N daft
To test your pick ups you can do the following get a multimeter and you should get a resistance of between 250 and 500 ohms across the three wires as follows.
Green/White - Black/White
Brown - Black/White
If you do this at the plug end of the lead and you don't get these readings then try it on the pickups themselves and if you do get those readings it means your lead is faulty.
You can do a check of the ignition coils both ways as well for piece of mind. Simply put a multimeter across the LT terminals of each coil and you get a reading of around 3 to 5 ohms
To test the HT side put the test probes of your multimeter in the plug caps of each coil and you should get areading between 30 - 60 Kohms
Here's a scan of the Ignitor faulting page from the Suzuki manual
Boyer Bransden do a replacement for the 550 although it's based on the GSX250, heres a listing from EBay UK for one
There's also a guy from Oz who regularly has ones on Ebay that he produces himself can't comment on them as I don't know anyone who has one
