    630 sprocket and 530 chain?

Can you put a 530 chain on a sprocket that originally had a 630 chain on it?

No, 630 chains work on 630 sprockets, 530 chains work on 530 sprockets.

Chain size is in inches, the three digit number used to discribe the chain size is based on the "rule of eights". The first digit is for chain pitch. This is the distance between the pins. The second and third digits combine for roller width, with a decimal point inserted between the second and third digits.
      A 530 chain has a pitch of 5/8" (15.88mm) and a roller width of 3.0/8" (9.52mm).

      A 630 chain has a pitch of 6/8" (19.05mm) and a roller width of 3.0/8" (9.52mm).

As you can see, the spacing of the rollers will not match up with the spacing of the teeth in the sprocket.

No, and the rule of thumb you must follow is.............
If you change the chain, change both sprockets
