petcock
Hi. Need Help. Just bought a new petcock from z 1, gravity fed. Problem is, the outlet on the petcock is a 1/4 inch and the original was 5/16. I'm trying to find a way to join the two hoses together. I have 5/16 and 1/4 inch line. I was told the 5/16 wouldnt work with this petcock even with a clamp because it would leak. I was also told I cant use 1/4 inch line on the carborator because it would be too tight. Trying to get on the road for spring. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks MikeTags: None

They are right about mixing the hose and fitting sizes, the 1/4 hose on a 5/16 fitting will tend to split and the 5/16 hose on a 1/4 fitting will leak. Many hardware and auto parts stores sell a hose coupling with 1/4 on one side and 5/16 on the other.
Did you call Z1 and bitch at them?

You can also stretch the 1/4" line over a 5/16 fitting by boiling a cup of water in the microwave and soaking the fuel line in it for a few seconds, than stretch it over the 5/16 fitting. This has worked well for me in the past however, once it's on, if you want it off again, you're going to have to cut it off.
