    gasket question

    hello this is my first bike im building its a 1983gs750es model and i cleaned my carbs real good got the bike running again but now im leaking gas where the bowls are i ordered new gaskets original ones i made the other ones from a sheet of gasket materials but 2 leak my question is do u put some permatex on with the gaskets or no???:-D

    Nothing on float bowl gaskets. Zero.

      I agree with Mark. You really shouldn't need anything but a decent gasket. I've never thought they were very prone to leak (and I've never even gotten new ones)...I wonder what's going on?

        Since the 'proper' fuel level should not be as high as the gasket, it sounds more like you have a fuel level problem, not the gaskets. Are you sure it's leaking from the gaskets, and not the overflow tubes? If the overflow "T" is there, but not the tube, it might run down the side and look like it's coming from the bowl gasket.

          Yeah, this is usually an indication of a problem with the o-ring around the needle float valve seat or with the needle valve itself.
