    78 750 dies

ive got a gs 750 motor sitting on a dune buggy.my problem is she wont stay running.my dyna ign. is hooked to a 12v switched source(toggle)...my starter is hooked through a start button to battery +.problem is she wont stay running unless i hold the starter button....doesnt make any sense to me.im new to bikes but have some exp. on vehicles(wrenchn).if i hit the button, the motor starts then dies.i figured it for fuel but theres plenty.i checked for spark and its hot.timing is right on for the dyna s.this has to be to easy for someone.am i over looking something?oh and the battery is 100%..........push starter button.....runs and dies........hold button.....runs great(good throttle response)till i let off.......can someone please help another lost soul?thanks for your time,mike....mdunks@grm.net

It sounds like the power for your ignition is tapped in after the starter button. Move it to a fused power source directly off the battery and it should work.

Some toggle switches are only rated at 1 or 2 amps. Sounds like your toggle switch cant carry enough amperage to run the ignition system.

i got rid of the toggle and push button and hooked ignition to battery +.then touched starter wire to battery to start the motor.runs great till i disconnect the starter wire from battery.what difference would having the starter running have on keeping the motor running?this doesnt make any sense to me but my 750 runs awsome as long as that starter motor is runnig.am i reducing voltage to the dyna s when starter is hooked up allowing engine to run?dyna s should need a 12 volt switched source, right?i hope to soon figure something out and thank everyone for their input,mike..

Put a voltmeter on the battery leads. Try disconnecting the R/R from the system and run just off the battery. If your R/R is cooked, your ignition may be having problems as a result.

On the GS's the recommendation is to run the lights or risk overloading the electrics.
