81 GS550 bogging down

I just rebuilt the carbs on my 81 gs550t, it seems to run great until I go about 5 miles and then it bogs down and quits. I am able to start it up after a few minutes and then it runs good again.

Any suggestions?

Take a look at your gas line. It could be kinked and not letting enough gas to pass into the carbs.

When you start up for the second time will it only run for 5 min. then stop, or will it just keep running?

If your gas line is OK, check the vent in the gas cap. If the tank is full, it won't take much to develop a vacuum.
If you ever make it to half-tank, it will go farther before becoming a problem.

When it bogs, stop, open the gas cap to see if you hear a rush of air. That would be your best clue if it's actually a vent problem.

I was out of gas.

I didn't realize I had used so much of what I had originally put in it during the carb rebuild and startup process.
