    emission sticker???

I went to register my bike today and ran into MANY problems.

First, the title was lost when I moved. I got the bike about 3 years ago as a gift.

I never transferred the title into my name. Now that it is running I want to register it.

    list of issues
    1. no title
    2. No bill of sale
    3. new gauges so the odometer is fresh
    4. there is no record of it on DMV files
    5. This is CALIFORNIA

I was asked where the emissions sticker is. aparantly that is needed with a new ODO. I have no idea where it is. Anyone.

    It is a 78 gs550.

    Thanks!!

First of all...sorry about your luck, dude.

I would suggest getting in touch with the person that gave it to you, assuming they were the last registered owner. They can apply for a duplicate title, then officially transfer it to you.

As far as the new gauges, I don't have a clue. Are they NEW, as in ZERO MILES, or just new to the bike, with mileage numbers that don't reflect what is actually on the bike? I would think that if the gauges were NEW, somebody might have enough sense to realize that the bike is almost 30 years old, parts have to be changed once in a while, and this time it was the gauges. You certainly won't be enhancing the resale value a whole lot by knocking off a few thousand miles, will you? If the gauges were used, and they have no record of the bike on DMV records, who is gonna know the difference. I certainly won't tell them. 8-[

      If at first

      try try again

So a buddy said that the person I dealt with at DMV probably just had a stick in his a$$ so I went to another DMV in the area....EUREKA.

She didnt even care. She just jotted down some numbers from the frame and motor. Didnt even have me do a CHP brake and light!

Of course after all was said and done I had to pay 348 in back reg fees. but at least I am legal now!!!
