This sounds an awful lot like how I managed to get my 850GL back from the auction house. Sitting for years, with a jump was only able ride her back using the choke lever. Thankfully it only needed to go a couple miles. If I put any throttle to it, it died fast. Obviously it was a carb issue with all four pretty gummed up, but if you cleaned it should be ok. One thing I learned out of it was that the only reason it ran on the choke was because it was the only way the carbs were pulling air into the system and into the pilot jets to vaporize the gas. I may need to look at that carb rebuild thread, but there should be a couple adjustment screws that need to be set (1.5 to 2 turns from fully in position) for a proper initial mixture.

If anything I may jar a thought in a more skilled mechanic with this, after all I'm just a hack.
