    That's my theory, too. There are some odd wrinkles under there, and the mounts are spread apart at an angle.

      Here you go, one patented tank bracket.

      Now i was under the impression that all the 80's and up tanks had wider mounts. i made this bracket up so that an e-bay 82 gsl tank would fit on my 78 750. it s made of alum and works great.

        That's pretty sweet Bopi but if I do that the two rear bolt mounts still won't fit up to the frame, and if that don't happen the seat won't go on, and if the seat don't go on, then my behind hurts after 5 miles.:-D
