Petcock with no handle '80 GS1100L
I have the petcock that has no handle, it operates on vacuum. It does have the small screw inside for adjustment, and has the letters "PRI" on the case. My question is, what position do you turn the screw to get to "prime" or "the regular running position", or do you turn it all the way in or out to get the 2 options. I don't have an original owners manual that might detail this. Thanks for all the help. Great forum.Tags: None

Looking at the petcock from the left side of the bike, rotate it all the way clockwise for RESERVE, 1/4 turn counter-clockwise for RUN, another 1/4 turnn counter-clockwise for PRIME. The normal position is RUN. The vacuum will open the valve in RUN and RESERVE, but it free-flows in PRIME.

The slot straight up and down for prime (12 and 6 o'clock) and back and forth for run (3 and 9 o'clock). You can turn these slots 100 times and it doesn't change anything. These settings are what they are.1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.

Which Oil?
I use 10W40, whatever brand is least expensive when I am buying. It calls for 10W40 right on the oil fill cap, so that makes it an easy decision. The bike uses a little oil. It has about 35,000 miles on it, and the oil stem seals are not the greatest. It seems that the more I ride it, the better the oil consumption gets. It usually just smokes a bit when starting it up cold.
