    79 gs1000 Rebuild Info

I am thinking about doing a rebuild on the bike.
If anyone can let me know where there is a good machine shop to do the work around southern Callifornia it would be help full. If I do rings do I need to replace the pistons? Can I use the old crank or is a new one needed? Replace the rods? Have transmission checked/repaired?
Basically let me know what I need to do and what I am in for.
Want to keep the bike pretty much stock.
Any ideas on the cost also would be good.
The Bike has 72k on it

You need to find a machinist to measure your bore and pistons to see how they compare to specs. Same with the valves.
Should be lots of bike machinsts in SoCal

The crank and rods should be fine. Expect to spend about $1,000 after you replace everything you need. You can count on:

      1. Pistons, rings, pins
      2. Valves, valve guides, valve stem seals
      3. All the gaskets
      4. Both the camchain tensioners

Lots of elbow grease, as you'll find many more things to clean/paint/polish

If you want it bigger and better try a Wiseco big bore kit
